Information for customers with an outstanding loan as at 28th June 2021

We stopped collecting payments at 9.30am on 28th June 2021. Any remaining balance you had after that date was now paid off. There are no more repayments to make to your Agent or Provident. This is because we’ve stopped trading in Ireland.

If your loan amount was €500 or more, we updated your credit record to show your balance has been cleared. If your loan was less than €500, don’t worry as we didn’t put anything on your credit record when you took the loan. Please allow 28 days from 28th June 2021 for the Central Credit Register to update.

We’ve written to all customers to confirm all this. There are also some answers to questions you may have below.

If you’ve any questions or concerns, please call us on 1800 553 083 or write to No 1 Godwin Street, Bradford, West Yorkshire, BD1 2SU, United Kingdom.

Thanks for being a Provident customer. We really appreciate you coming to us for your loan(s) and for your loyalty.

Frequently asked questions

Why aren’t you taking payments anymore?

Our loans business closed on 1st July 2021 so we’re no longer trading. We stopped collecting payments at 9.30am on 28th June 2021.

I’m due to make a payment, what do I do?

You shouldn’t make a payment to Provident, your Agent or any other individual. You can keep any money you were still due to repay, including the interest.

If someone knocks at your door or calls you saying they are collecting repayments for a Provident loan, don’t give them any money.

Why has Provident closed?

Over the years, we’ve been proud to help people who need a loan and can’t get one elsewhere. However, the tough economic situation resulted in us making the difficult decision to stop providing our loans service.

Will this have a negative impact on my credit file?

No. If your loan amount was €500 or more, we updated your credit record to show your balance has been cleared. If your loan was less than €500, don’t worry as we didn’t put anything on your credit record when you took the loan. Please allow 28 days from 28th June 2021 for the Central Credit Register to update.

I need a loan. Where can get one?

If you need a loan, make sure you borrow from a regulated lender. The Central Bank of Ireland has a register of all authorised lenders: http://registers.centralbank.ie/Home.aspx

Who do I contact if I have a query?
